January 2013 - Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) has launched a voluntary green power product called the Green Power Program. The program allows customers to purchase a portion or all of their monthly electricity from renewable sources. NIPSCO will charge a $0.002163/kilowatt-hour (kWh) premium for the renewable energy. For a household consuming 1,000 kWh of electricity, that equates to an extra $0.54 for 25% of the household's energy to come from renewable sources, $1.08 for 50% renewables, and $2.16 for 100% renewable energy. NIPSCO has recently received certification by Green-e Energy for this new green power product.
FTR Energy Services (FTR), a subsidiary of Frontier Communications Corporation, has also initiated a new green power product. Ohio customers of FTR can now choose to purchase 100% wind power and can opt for two available product pricing options including a fixed-rate and variable rate charge. Each pricing option also includes a cash-back reward that reimburses the customer for 5% of their monthly supply charge.
